Zulum, please repair Galtimari by-pass road

Sir: Your Excellency, I’m writing to implore, as well as draw your attention to the dilapidated condition of the Galtimari by-pass road.
The road is in need of an urgent intervention to ease transportation and decongest traffic in the metropolis.

The 3.2km road links Gombole-village, Fori, and Tashan-Bama, among other areas. It has been the easiest route for students, traders, motorists as well as tricyclists within the Maiduguri metropolis.

The Galtimari by-pass road was constructed around 2019, under Kashim Shettima’s watch, and was commissioned by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo. Awfully, in less than three years, the road has completely gone bad because it was not properly constructed by the clients and contractors.

Your Excellency, it may shock you to hear that the current dilapidated situation of the road has added to the predicaments of your beloved citizens, especially students.

Frankly, you are a blessing in disguise, considering the humongous developmental projects recorded in the state within three years in power. This is ranging from health, education, security, agriculture and humanitarian services. The aforesaid milestones remain a political breakthrough in the history of Borno state. It may interest the reader to know that within two years, Zulum executed over 556 capital projects, and out of these figures, over 63 were said to be roads, including the new flyover at the custom roundabout.

It is on this note that I urge the governor to continue on the path of service to his people by extending same gesture to Galtimari by-pass as most of the people plying the road consider it as shortcut. Doing so would help in decongesting the state’s transport system as well as ease the burden of the commuters within Maiduguri metropolis – hoping that the road will be fixed soon.

Finally, I urge his excellency to investigate the persistent issues surrounding the road project, by setting up a fact-finding committee to visit the area, to see what exactly is going on.
• Shettima Lawan Monguno wrote from Maiduguri, Borno State.
